MV Koonya was built and launched by Henry Robb Shipbuilders in July 1957 as Ship No 461
She was another ship order from a large customer of the firm from New Zealand. The USSCo of N.Z. ordered more than 20 ships from the Leith Shipbuilders.
Tough sturdy ships well built for the harsh New Zealand conditions
