Asbestos Exposure

Updated: Aug 29, 2021

I have been asked to include this article on a very important topic, which used to be on my old website before I had to take it down. I well remember they were still using Blue Asbestos in the ships that we were building at Leith, and the plates were stilled primed with Red Lead paint. A bloody scandal as the shipyards and later the Government knew full well the dangers of asbestos and Red Lead but done nothing about it.

"Some occupations are associated with an elevated risk of asbestos exposure. Historically, shipyard workers are among the most frequently exposed. Shipyard workers often come in contact with dangerous levels of asbestos, increasing their chances of developing diseases like asbestos-related diseases such as mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma is a rare cancer that is caused by inhaled asbestos fibers and forms in the lining of the lungs, abdomen or heart. Symptoms can include shortness of breath and chest pain. The life expectancy for most mesothelioma patients is approximately 12 months after diagnosis.

You can learn more about asbestos exposure, mesothelioma and the effect on shipyard workers here."

More on the terrible effects and where you can find out so much more, while most of this info is U.S.A. based it is pretty much the same as that found in the U.K.

For more visit the following - https://www.asbestos.net/veterans/navy/ships/

We have some more places for veterans to seek help with what they can do if they feel that they may have been exposed to Asbestos, for now most of the information is for the U.S. but if anyone from the U.K. has the same and wishes the information shown here then we are happy to help, just contact us through the website.
