RMAS Goosander (A164)

It was in April 1973 when the first of the two Boom Defence Vessels for the (MoD) Navy was launched, her sister ship Pochard was on the same berth and would be launched later in the year. RMAS Goosander was Ship No 513 from the Robb Caledon Shipyard (Leith Division) The type was known as the “Wild Duck Class”



Goosander, was a tough little multi-purpose vessel well used by the navy, including a stint in the frigid waters of the Falkland Islands, as part of the task force sent from the U.K. to take back the Islands from the Argentine aggressors in 1982.
